Building the Chinook came about through another 'dare'. Hirobo at that time had a small tandem rotor model but someone challenged me to build a bigger one. The first problem was to work out how the mechanics would work. As there was nothing commercial available, I made my own using two 60 size, three-bladed heads.
The body length was determined by the rotor diameter - as you can see from the picture of the mould below, I can fit inside it. Some say I should use it as my coffin! All up weight was around 28 pounds and was powered by an OS90 glo engine.
The framework you can see in the picture below isn't metal - it's strips of PC board to keep the model light. This was perfectly strong enough.
